Platforms
- Does everyone need an iPhone?
- To edit, yes. People without the app are still on the trip, with their own dates and bookings, and the Organizer can tell them the plan. A read-only way to share the plan with people who don’t have the app is designed and coming next.
- Is there an Android, iPad, Mac or web version?
- No. Faring is an iPhone app. We’ll look at other platforms after launch, once the beta shows how many invited people are on something else.
- Widgets, Apple Watch, Siri?
- Siri, yes. The others, not yet. Say “Add to Faring” with a link or a few words and it goes into the trip’s Ideas; Shortcuts can do the same. Widgets and Apple Watch are not in the beta.
Offline and changes
- What happens to an edit I make on a ferry with no signal?
- It saves on your phone and goes out when you’re back. The server merges each field on its own, so your change to the time and someone else’s change to the place both survive. If two people changed the same field, you see a note and choose: keep yours, or take theirs.
- How long does a trip stay on my phone without a connection?
- 30 days, by the phone’s clock, renewed any time you’re online. The app opens from what’s saved, cold, with no signal at all.
- Can I undo something?
- Yes. Recent changes shows every change with before and after and who made it. Undo and Redo work for 30 days, including changes an assistant made.
People and invitations
- Do my parents need an account to be on the trip?
- No. A person on a trip is a name and their dates. An account is only for someone who will open Faring themselves.
- How do invitations work?
- From the app, in Messages or Mail, with the role you chose. The person joins with their own account. Invitations expire after a week; “Invite again” in the Inbox sends a fresh one. A link that works without the app installed is coming next.
- What are the roles?
- Five, in rank order. Organizer runs the trip. Co-organizer edits everything and invites people. Planner edits the plan. Contributor adds their own flights, ideas and to-dos. Viewer sees the plan. A higher role can always do what a lower one can.
Assistants and AI
- Is there AI in it?
- Yes, and it never writes without you. Suggestions you accept or dismiss; an assistant you connect yourself; every change labelled. Names, booking codes, dates and links never reach the model that makes suggestions.
- Which assistants work with Faring?
- Claude Desktop and Claude Code, today. You make a connection key in Settings and can revoke it any time. ChatGPT is next: we’ll list it here once we’ve verified it end to end, and any other assistant the same way.
Photos, documents and data
- Where are my documents kept?
- On Faring’s service, scanned for malware on the way in, visible to the trip’s members according to their role, and marked “Only you” when private. The text inside them is read on your phone for search.
- Do photos reveal where I was?
- Not precisely. The location in a photo is rounded to about a hundred metres before upload, and the server refuses exact coordinates.
- Can I delete my account and take my data?
- Yes, from Settings. Export first if you like: a ZIP of your data and your own photo originals. Deletion is scheduled 7 days out so a mistake can be cancelled.
- Does Faring sell my data or show ads?
- No and no. Trips are visible only to the people you put on them. When the app crashes, it sends a crash report to PostHog with no trips, names or account details; you can turn that off in Settings › Privacy & data. Anonymous product analytics are planned too; they’ll never be joined to your trips or sold. The privacy page has the table of what leaves your phone.
Price and what’s coming
- What does it cost?
- Nothing during the beta, for you and everyone you invite. We’re building Faring with the people who use it, so tell us what works and what doesn’t: it goes to the people building it and shapes what comes next.
- Will it stay free?
- For the whole beta, yes. We haven’t decided what comes after. If it changes, you’ll hear it from us first, with plenty of notice.
- Can I forward my booking emails?
- Not yet. Share a confirmation from Mail with the share sheet, open a PDF, calendar invite or boarding pass in Faring, or add it from Calendar, and Faring fills in the booking. Forwarding to a Faring address is designed and coming next.
- Voting? Expense splitting?
- Voting, yes. Splitting, no. Put any Ideas to a vote: pick one, a first and second choice, or yes or no, and the winner goes on the day. For money, Faring tracks what a booking costs and what’s paid, and leaves settling up to the apps that do it well.
- Will I get notifications?
- Not in the beta. No push notifications and no flight alerts today.
